DON'T order the biggest or most expensive item on the menu. You don't want to appear gluttonous or greedy. If you're planning on paying for your own meal, ordering the most extravagant meal appears self-indulgent. If your date offers to pick up the tab, ordering the most expensive meal casts you as a possible gold digger.
DON'T order greasy/messy finger foods. Try to stick with a knife and fork.
DON'T eat with your mouth open. Try not to talk while you're chewing.
DON'T make a lot of mouth movements when you chew. Avoid loud, crunchy foods.
DON'T eat foods such as cabbage, beans, lentils.
DON'T drink carbonated beverages.
DON'T order foods that could easily stain your clothes (for example, spaghetti sauce).
DON'T eat anything that requires two hands to lift, such as a huge grinder, a big pizza slice, or a heaping platter from the buffet table. You want easily-controlled foods that do not end up in your lap, on the floor, and especially not on your date.
DON'T order anything with too much garlic or other spices.
DON'T chew gum.
