Korea has a long tradition of matchmaking. For roughly 600 years since the late Goryeo period, matchmaking has been an important part of Korean marriage culture. Even about 100 years ago, most Koreans married through introductions arranged by traditional matchmakers. K-Matching explains that the Couple Manager is a modern development of this traditional matchmaking concept.
While traditional matchmakers connected couples by considering family background, character, and marriage conditions, today’s Couple Managers use IT-based databases, matching systems, and counseling experience to find and connect more suitable partners for members. In other words, the traditional role of matchmaking has evolved through modern systems.
The role of a Couple Manager does not end with a single introduction. It is characterized by supporting the full process, including member consultation, registration guidance, profile analysis, matching, meeting coordination, relationship follow-up, and marriage support. The core task is to help manage the relationship so that a good meeting can develop into marriage.
This occupation is also introduced in Korean career information materials as a professional job. That means it is recognized as a role requiring counseling ability, communication skills, and the ability to analyze and organize member information.
The term “Couple Manager” is known to have been created in 1997 by Lee Woong-jin, founder and CEO of Couple.net. K-Matching says it plans to introduce the Couple Manager not as a simple marriage counseling role, but as a professional model that modernly carries forward Korea’s long matchmaking tradition to the Korean, Chinese, and Japanese markets.
A K-Matching official said, “Good relationships are not completed by chance alone. A Couple Manager is a modern matchmaker who combines Korea’s traditional matchmaking culture with today’s data-based matching systems and supports the entire process from meeting to marriage.”
