A story was recently posted on a portal community that caught my attention. A woman in her late 30s started dating a man in his early 40s. She met him through her work. The man tried hard to win her heart, and after many tries, they started dating. However, she realized that she didn't know much about him except for the company he worked for.
Since they’re both at the age to consider marriage, she showed her family registry to him and asked him if he could share his as well. However, he got upset at her and accused her of being suspicious of him. Since then, she hasn’t been able to reach him.
Reading this story brought back a memory from a few years ago. I matched a couple who were both very satisfied with each other's credentials. Everything seemed to be smooth sailing until the lady’s father asked him to share his family registry and health examination reports.
Maybe the way her father delivered the message was what ticked him off, but he could have been more understanding of the old man trying to make sure his daughter was in good hands. He could have also opened himself up to her parents first.
This may sound very foreign to a lot of people but couples getting health checkups before their marriage is a wise thing to do. According to the survey results by Sunoo (conducted against 300 single men and women on the topic of ‘conditions for a happy marriage’), ‘family health’ was ranked second after ‘consistent love between couples’. Getting married with a healthy body and mind is the best wedding gift you can give to your loved one.
It is not a bad idea to disclose each other’s financial status as well. Understanding who has a sense of finance or is interested in financial management and sharing the same financial goals will lead the marriage to a success.
